This scholarship is named in memory of Doreen Makarenko. Doreen graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing in 1957. She enjoyed a long nursing career at the Fairview Hospital, the Fairview Nursing Home, and later as a Home Care nurse. Doreen was a proud active member of the Fairview community and was involved in many community groups and projects. She valued education and encouraged others to pursue their post-secondary studies; therefore this scholarship has been established to encourage local students to continue their education at the post-secondary level in the field of health care.
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually.
Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship is available to students graduating from a Peace Country area high school in the current academic year or to current post-secondary students enrolled in their subsequent year of studies.
Applicants must enroll in full time studies in a health care related program at an educational institution in Alberta

Applicants are requested to provide a letter of recommendation. As well, please include an overview introducing yourself, your plans for your education, community involvement and why this scholarship would be beneficial to you. Please limit this to one page. The application deadline is January 31st.
