This scholarship is named in memory of Doreen Makarenko. Doreen graduated from the University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing in 1957. She enjoyed a long nursing career at the Fairview Hospital, the Fairview Nursing Home, and later as a Home Care nurse. Doreen was a proud active member of the Fairview community and was involved in many community groups and projects. She valued education and encouraged others to pursue their post-secondary studies; therefore this scholarship has been established to encourage local students to continue their education at the post-secondary level in the field of health care.
One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually.
The scholarship is available to students graduating from a Peace Country area high school in the current academic year or to current post-secondary students enrolled in their subsequent year of studies.
Applicants must enroll in full time studies in a health care related program at an educational institution in Alberta
Applicants are requested to provide a letter of recommendation.
